We welcome your interest in applying for a vacancy with the Department of Health and the Tasmanian Health Service.  We want all applicants to have the best possible chance of being considered for vacancies. Here we have provided a basic guide, and a range of resources to assist you in presenting your application and information that you may need to know about positions with us.

To apply for an advertised position, you will need to refer to the Statements of Duties (SoD). This is available from the web page advertising the job you wish to apply for, and can be downloaded as a Word or PDF document.

If you would like more information about the vacancy after reading the SoD, call the contact officer nominated in the advertisement. The contact officer works in the area of the vacancy and will be able to advise you on the particular aspects of the role, and what is required from your application.

Some positions will have eligibility and pre-employment check requirements (Identity, disciplinary and conviction checks) which will be highlighted on the SoD

For your application to be considered it must include certain essential information, which differs for each job. Check the job details and talk to the contact officer to confirm the requirements.

How to apply

Online submissions are the preferred application method. Apply through the website from the relevant job advertisement page.

Hard copy applications are also accepted and should be forwarded to the address specified in the job advertisement.  Please staple or clip applications. Do not bind or use a presentation folder.
If you cannot submit your application by the closing date, you can call the contact officer to discuss if a late application will be accepted.  You will receive email or written acknowledgement of your application.


Selection is based on merit. A variety of methods may be used and are designed to select the best candidates.
