Tasmanian Homelessness Plan

The Minister for Human Services, Lin Thorp MLC released the Tasmanian Homelessness Plan for consultation on 18 December 2009.

Homelessness is a complex issue. People become homeless for a number of reasons including changes in the economy, at key points of transition in life and when experiencing family violence, mental health or alcohol and other drug issues.

Many services are already working with people who are homeless or at risk but not in a coordinated way. We could be more effective.

Homelessness is a whole-of-government and community issue. All Government services and all levels of Government, the community and business must take responsibility and work together.

The Tasmanian Homelessness Plan provides a framework for responding to homelessness. It outlines key strategies and proposes actions to achieve them through making homelessness everyone's responsibility.

Feedback is encouraged now from all community and Government organisations.
