Happy Interns

Many happy interns enjoy their stay

A recent survey has found junior doctors in Tasmanian public hospitals are exceptionally happy with their internships.

The Intern Evaluation Survey 2009 Survey asked respondents to reflect on their year as an intern. Among other things, the survey found:

  • support from the Medical Education Advisor was rated excellent or good by
96 per cent of Royal Hobart Hospital interns
  • support from Directors of Clinical Training was rated excellent or good by
100 per cent of North West Regional Hospital interns
  • support from the Medical Education Advisor was rated excellent or good by
80 per cent of Launceston Regional Hospital interns.

Department of Health and Human Services Chief Medical Officer Dr Craig White said these results reflected well on those who train and support our junior doctors during the important early years of their medical career.

“We welcome comments and suggestions to help improve the quality of intern training and education, and their overall experience in Tasmanian public hospitals,” Dr White said.

The survey was conducted by DHHS staff with help from the Postgraduate Medical Education Council of Tasmania in November 2009.
