Would you know what to say if asked: "Did they want to be an organ and tissue donor?"
DonateLife Week – February 19 to 26 – is Australia's national awareness week to promote organ and tissue donation.
DonateLife Week is led by the Organ and Tissue Authority as part of the national DonateLife campaign and supported by community events and activities across Australia.
More Australians are discussing organ and tissue donation with family and 72% believe their family knows their donation wishes, however, only 57% actually know their loved ones’ donation wishes.
Australians are encouraged to ask and know the organ and tissue donation wishes of family members in DonateLife Week because the family will always be asked to confirm the donation wishes of the deceased.
Families that have discussed and know each other's donation wishes are more likely to uphold those wishes.
Because some Australians still find it difficult to talk about organ and tissue donation with family, having the discussion in DonateLife Week can help normalise the subject and make it okay to talk about.
Ask and know your loved ones’ donation wishes.
