A series of expos being held around Tasmania aims to help people living with disability learn more about how they can get involved with their community.
The 2013 Gearing Up: Living Your Potential Expo in Hobart was officially opened today.
Helping people with disability engage with their community - whether that is through education, training, employment or recreational activities– is an important way of ensuring they can live rich, fulfilling lives.
Events like Gearing Up are important as they give people with disability, their families and carers the opportunity to speak directly with organisations to gain valuable information to support moving into work, education, or further training.
Bringing together numerous organisations in one place helps individuals and their families to make informed choices about the future and so that they can live their lives to their potential.
The 2013 Gearing Up: Living Your Potential Expos comes just weeks before the launch of DisabilityCare Australia, the National Disability Insurance Scheme in Tasmania on 1 July 2013.
The expos provide a good opportunity for young people with disability who will be part of the launch, to meet with staff from DisabilityCare Australia to learn firsthand about what the scheme will mean for them.
A similar expo will be held at the Launceston Tailrace Centre on June 6.
