Throughout Tasmania, work is already underway that supports the objectives of Leading the Way. The aim of the strategy is to highlight those projects which align with the key themes of Leading the Way.

Funding has been allocated for the following projects:

  • The introduction of the Consistent Ward at the Launceston General Hospital and North West Regional Hospital. The funding will be used to free up time to care and thereby contribute to patient care;
  • The development of a leadership and management program for health professionals
  • Seed funding for up to 50 leadership and management places in the program;
  • The creation of new nurse practitioner opportunities with priority given to roles that build on system integration, chronic disease management and areas linking to the DHHS Strategic Directions 09-12; and
  • Establish awards in health service innovation that link to the key themes of Leading the Way and demonstrate benefit to the patient’s experience of care.

Other projects include:

  • The Tasmanian Healthcare Associated Infection Prevention Strategy
  • Extended scope of practice for nursing and midwifery
  • Extended roles in nursing and midwifery
  • Improving education and training pathways to encourage greater flexibility with the healthcare workforce
  • Development and implementation of a framework to facilitate full and extended scope of practice for allied health professionals
  • Implementation of a policy framework for the employment of healthcare support workers in nursing, midwifery and allied health
