Tasmanian Health Service - Northern Region

The Emergency Department provides a 24 hour, 7 day a week emergency medical care service for the population of Northern Tasmania and receives some patients from the North-West region. It is the only major emergency department in the North of the State.

Specialist emergency physicians are on duty on weekdays, most weekends and most evenings. An emergency physician is on-call 24 hours a day for major trauma and critically ill medical cases.

Specialist emergency medicine advice is available for nurses and medical practitioners within the Northern region 24 hours a day.

One of the emergency physicians is also the Director of the Tasmanian Medical Retrieval Service.

The department is recognized for advanced training of emergency physicians.
