The Pre-Chemotherapy Clinic (PCC) provides you with information about what to expect during your treatment and assess your individual needs. This enables us to provide the best possible care during your treatment. Patients having other types of cancer treatments such as Immunotherapy will also have a PCC appointment.
What’s involved?
The PCC will take about 1.5 hours and during this time you will see each of the following health professionals for education and support:
Chemotherapy Nurse Education (~30 minutes)
- The nurse will discuss your treatment: when, where, and how it will happen.
- They will provide instructions for the day of treatment.
- Outline potential side effects of the treatment.
- Detail any follow-up and general care needs.
Pharmacist medication Interview (~ 30 minutes)
- Please bring your medications or a medication list to discuss with your pharmacist.
- Opportunity to discuss your medication-related questions.
Social Work Interview (~30 minutes)
- The purpose of the introduction to the Oncology Social Worker is to highlight the range of services they offer right from the beginning of your treatment.
- Oncology Social Workers can help patients, their families and carers by providing practical, and emotional support, and financial advice.
Who can come?
Please feel free to bring your spouse, partner, family member or friend with you.
Do I need to prepare anything?
Apart from your medications (or list) bring any questions you may have. It will be helpful for the team if you bring in any information your Oncologist has given you.
You will be provided with an appointment date and time in the week before starting your treatment.
If you require a Translation Service to assist you, please tell us when you received your appointment.
